pitch for National Brand x Kelce collab

I won’t name this national brand because I like to think this missed opportunity already haunts them and I don’t want to salt their wounds. On October 13, 2023 I reached out asking them to sponsor a gift for Jason and Kylie Kelce, past clients of mine. The ability to sense a zeitgeist moment before it peaks is a talent I would love to find a practical application for, instead of being left to shake my fist at the air.

The date is important, so remember it….

Good morning! 

I’m a huge fan and repeat customer of National Brand and also a professional photographer. I was fortunate to serve as Jason and Kylie Kelce’s wedding photographer (you might know Jason as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend’s brother, though he’s beloved and famous on his own). 

I recently watched the new Prime documentary, ‘Kelce’, and noticed Jason and Kylie don’t have a single wedding picture hanging. I was thinking of sending them a few and then had the thought we might collaborate on a product to send to them? They now have three daughters so I thought we could incorporate them as well. 

Jason and Kylie are two of the most genuine, generous and down to earth people. Kylie also tends to share posts when receiving gifts, so I thought this could be an opportunity for you, National Brand

Remember, the date was important: Jason’s brother had recently gone public as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. Sensing that Jason and Kylie’s profile was about to skyrocket (and knowing how valuable a mention from them could be in the near future) motivated me to make this ask, something I’d never done before.

3 months later, shortly after this gifting scheme would have been completed, Jason and Kylie exploded, suddenly unavoidable in the national media landscape. Instead of having any shot at FREE valuable brand positioning on their grid, the brand had instead asked me to create influencer content for their holiday rollout, for which I was paid. They missed an incredible opportunity by not trusting my strategic instinct. Now every brand is clamoring to collaborate the Kelces.
